 | | | | Zijn historie en interieur maken café Oosterling tot een van de meest bijzondere lokalen van Amsterdam. Het interieur met onder meer authentieke fusten, die ooit dienden voor de opslag van dranken, schept een sfeer alsof de tijd er al meer dan een eeuw stilstaat. Het café is tevens slijterij, een combinatie die tegenwoordig niet vaak voorkomt in onze hoofdstad. Voor veel mensen een extra reden om het café te bezoeken. Het pand is van rond 1735, toen de VOC er koffie, thee en specerijen uit het Verre Oosten verkocht. Uit die tijd stamt ook de lage toonbank die nog steeds in gebruik is. Zijn huidige cafébestemming kreeg het pand in 1820. Het is sinds 1877 in handen van de familie Oosterling, die het kocht als filiaal voor haar distilleerderij. De broers Marcel en Oscar zijn intussen de vierde generatie Oosterling achter de bar. | | | | |

| | | | ‘Oosterling’ has been a licensed pub cum off-licence since 1820. For many people this unique combination provides the best motivation for a visit. The interior gives a feeling of being a hundred years back in time. The building dates from around 1735 and was owned by the Dutch East India Company. Coffee, tea and spices from the Far East were sold here. The casks are now purely for decorative purposes, though in their time they were actually used for the storage of several types of drink. Around 1820 the premises were officially licensed and since 1879 have been property of the Oosterling family from Gouda, who bought the building with the intention of turning it into a branch of their distillery. Brothers Marcel and Oscar are already the 4th generation to continue the pub. | | | | |
